The 24-karat 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins were released on Thursday April 29, 2010, and was the 6th edition of the American Buffalo Gold Coins series after the series was officially authorized by the Public Law 109-145 on December 22, 2005. The bill was also famously known as the Presidential 41 Coin Act. The 2010 edition gold coins were offered by the United States Mint with the face value of $50.
During the first day of the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins release, the United States Mint stated that a record of 48,500 were successfully sold to the public who are mostly lifelong fans of the United States Mint collector coins. However, since the release of the Bullion Buffalo coins, the United States Mint put a halt to selling the coins directly to the public and began to hire “Authorized Purchasers” or the AP in order for the coins to be distributed on a larger scale.
The first day total of 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins sales of 48,500 coins represented around 24.3% of the 2009 edition of the same coins last year. However, on Friday during the second day release of the coins, another 8,000 coins were purchased which set a new record for most gold coins to be sold annually at a total of 56,500 coins.
This means that the demands of the American Buffalo Gold Coins are still very high despite the news of the depletion and suspension by the United States Mint regarding the bullion state of affairs. Nonetheless, the 2010 American Buffalo Gold coins were sold out and will be made available or re-struck again for the market.
The design of the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins is still the same as the previous successors. The reverse side of the coin features the American buffalo or bison, who many believed to be modelled by “Black Diamond”, a buffalo that lived in the New York City Zoo. However, the statement has never been confirmed by the United States Mint. Other designs on the reverse side include the inscription of “United States of America”, “e Pluribus Unum”, In God We Trust”, face value of “$50” and the “1/2 oz .9999 Pure Gold”.
The obverse side still features the engraving of the Indian Chief portrait, inscriptions of “Liberty”, and “2010” as the mint mark. The original design of the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins was first sported on the famous Buffalo Nickel that was circulated until 1938. According to the recent price of gold, the 2010 American Buffalo Gold Coins were said to be sold between $1,595 and $1,699. After the selling out of the last coins, the United States Mint then decided to come out with the proof version of the same coins to satisfy the market’s need of the infamous American Buffalo Gold Coins series.
