The United States twenty-cent piece was an odd denomination minted from 1875 to 1878. The elements of design as well as the size of the twenty cent coin were very similar to that of the Quarter Dollar. This is a why a vast majority were quite confused when it comes to the usage of these coins.
The production of the twenty-cent pieces intended for circulation was only for a short span of time—between 1875 and 1876. During the next two years that followed, twenty cent coins were struck only as proofs. Indeed, the twenty-cent piece is a great collector’s find, as this was only available for a short while.
