The original Wheat design was replaced with Lincoln Memorial (on the reverse) on the 150th of Lincoln’s birth in 1959. From 1959 until now there were few retouches done on the Lincoln cent in 1960, 1962, 1969, 1970, 1975 and 1982 mainly due to the rising of copper price and mint marks.

The Lincoln Cent debuted in 1909, replacing the fifty year old Indian Head Cent with its longest design life span ever (99 years in 2008) in US coin history, close to its 100th anniversary in 2009. By the end of 2009, Lincoln Cent will get a new face lift to honor the 200th birth year of President Abraham Lincoln.
